How to open a bank account in Poland Ukrainians in 2022

To open an account with a Polish bank, you have to come to the branch in person, you cannot do it remotely. The exception is Bank Pocztowy, which provides the opportunity to open an account by mail.

What papers to bring depends on the bank. They have made it as easy as possible for Ukrainians to open a Polish account. Some institutions ask only for a passport (Bank Pekao, Bank Pocztowy). Others require a Temporary Foreigner's ID, a residence card (Credit Agricole), and other documents.

Most institutions allow you to open an account for free and don't charge for transactions in Ukraine:

  • Alior Bank;
  • Bank Millennium;
  • Bank Pekao;
  • Citi Handlowy.

To find out the conditions for opening an account, just go to the website. There is information for Ukrainians on the main page of many banks. You can also call a hotline open specifically for Ukrainian citizens. Many banks are staffed by people who know Ukrainian well (Alior Bank) and will answer all your questions.

Ukrainian versions of sites

After registration the client gets access to online banking. Mobile applications of some banks support Ukrainian language:

  • Alior Bank;
  • Pekao;
  • BNP Paribas;
  • Credit Agricole;
  • Santander Bank Polska;
  • PKO BP.

Bank Pekao

Information on working with Ukrainians at Bank Pekao can be found on the main page of the website by clicking on the window "Vidkritiy Rahunok". The account offered to Ukrainians is called Konto Przekorzystne and Konto Dopomoha. The bank does not charge for maintenance of the account, cards, currency conversion, withdrawal/replenishment of funds at the bank's cash desks.

To open an account at Bank Pekao, you need to bring a Ukrainian domestic or international passport, including old models, in the form of a book. You may also need a PESEL certificate. If the client currently does not have the documents that confirm his/her identity, he/she can open an account, but must provide them within 6 months. If he/she does not do so, Bank Pekao will terminate the contract.

Bank Millennium

There is also information for customers of Ukraine on the main page of Millennium Bank. To open an account with Bank Millennium, you can bring a document that proves his/her identity:

  • domestic or international passport;
  • driving license;
  • a certificate confirming the identity of the applicant, issued by the Polish authorities / consulate of Ukraine.

The bank does not charge Ukrainians for maintenance of an account, debit cards, withdrawals at branches and ATMs, and transactions in Ukraine.

Alior Bank

To open an account with Alior Bank, you will need:

  • passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
  • residence card;
  • Temporary Foreigner's ID.

Special accounts - Konto Jakże Osobiste or Konto Internetowe - have been developed for Ukrainians. They can pay nothing for withdrawing money from branches and ATMs, or for maintaining personal accounts and debit cards in the period from 1 March 2022 to 28 February 2023.

The bank does not charge a fee for transfers to Ukraine, but there are peculiarities. During the transaction it is withdrawn, then returned to the account within 2 weeks.
