Curacao's gambling regulator has confirmed the resignation of its entire board of directors.

Resignation of the Supervisory Board

In mid-September of this year, the entire Supervisory Board of the Curacao Gaming Control Authority (CGA) resigned. The regulator itself officially announced this, noting that the statement was made in line with the organization's policy of transparency and openness. Despite the leadership changes, the CGA continues to operate without interruption, and all functions are carried out as usual.

History and Role of the Regulator

The Gaming Control Board (GCB) was established on April 19, 1999. Its primary purpose is to oversee the entire gambling industry, both within and outside of Curacao. For many years, the GCB has ensured the legality, integrity, and financial transparency of operators operating under the island's jurisdiction.

Transformation of the CCB into the CGA

Effective December 24, 2024, following the entry into force of the National Gaming Decree (LOK), the CCB was transformed into the Curaçao Gaming Control Authority (CGA). This transformation is part of a comprehensive reform aimed at raising regulatory standards and strengthening oversight of gambling operators.

The CGA is chaired by a Board of Directors, which operates under the supervision of a Supervisory Board. Until recently, the regulator was administratively subordinate to the Minister of Finance. However, on October 13, 2025, the Government of Curaçao announced the transfer of this function to the Minister of Justice. The new delegation of powers took effect on August 19, 2025, and is aimed at strengthening the legal framework for gambling regulation.

Continuation of Operations Without Disruption

Despite the departure of the entire Supervisory Board, the CGA's operations have not been suspended. The government has already begun the process of appointing new members, which should ensure the smooth running of the regulator. All processes, including operator licensing, oversight of their activities, and compliance with the LOK regulations, continue as usual.
