Lithuania extends transition period for crypto companies until end of 2025
The Lithuanian Parliament has made an important decision for the cryptocurrency industry — the transition period for companies working with virtual assets has been officially extended until December 31, 2025. Initially, it was planned that the transition would be completed on June 1, 2025, but the business community insisted on the need for additional time to adapt to the new regulatory requirements. The document has been sent to the President for signature, after which it will come into force.
Reasons for the extension and its significance for business
The decision to extend the deadline is due to Lithuania's preparation for the full implementation of European standards, including the Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5) and the MiCA regulation. The new legislation requires crypto companies to implement strict KYC/AML procedures, ensure transparency of operations, and be ready for licensing.
The extension will allow market participants to slowly restructure internal processes, comply with the requirements of supervisory authorities, and maintain business sustainability under the new rules.

With an open approach to innovative technologies and support for the digital economy, Lithuania maintains its status as one of the most convenient destinations in the EU for registering crypto companies.
