Vanuatu Citizenship by Investment under the DSP Program - Conditions and Benefits

Vanuatu is an independent Pacific nation that is increasingly becoming the choice of wealthy individuals to obtain a second passport. In 2017, the government launched the Development Support Program (DSP), a government initiative that allows investors and their families to obtain citizenship in record time. On average, the process takes 8-10 weeks and is carried out through a fixed contribution to the national development fund.

Benefits of Vanuatu citizenship

The main advantage of the program is the simplicity and speed of registration. The new passport is granted for life, and its validity is 10 years with the possibility of renewal. Citizenship is automatically transferred to children, which makes it a profitable investment in the future of the family.

There are no mandatory requirements for program participants to live in Vanuatu, pass language exams, or be present in person when submitting documents. This makes the DSP accessible to international applicants.

A Vanuatu passport provides visa-free or simplified entry to more than 90 countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel and Russia. In addition, citizens receive Commonwealth status, which provides additional privileges, including assistance from British consulates in third countries.

Additional benefits include the ability to obtain a driver's license, national ID and a Vanuatu birth certificate. The country has a favorable tax system: there are no taxes on income, capital gains, inheritance and corporate income. The main fee is formed by VAT, which is 15%.

The citizenship application process

The procedure includes several key stages:

  • Validation of the applicant's reliability (VFIU clearance).
  • Submission of documents for participation in the program.
  • Conducting an oath and issuing a passport, which can be done online.

Applicant requirements

The applicant must have a clean reputation, no criminal record and confirm assets in the amount of at least US$250,000. You also need to provide a standard package of documents: a passport, a certificate of no criminal record, a medical report, photographs and proof of address.

Separate restrictions apply to citizens of some countries (Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea, Yemen). Exceptions are possible for those who have not lived in these countries for more than 5 years and have a permanent residence permit elsewhere.
